Ingredients for Our Cheese Curds
Pasteurized Milk
- Your Bag of Cheese Curds all began with the cows that you can see roaming through the field around our retail location in Honeybrook, PA. The milk goes from the cows to the cheese-making vat with no middleman!
- The fat that’s naturally found in milk is left in to create a richer and creamier cheese. Leaving the milk full-fat also ensures that you get all the natural health benefits that a Bag of Cheese Curds has to offer.Â
- In 1864, Louis Pasteur developed a process called pasteurization. This process consists of milk being heated to kill any harmful bacteria that are found in milk. Up until this day, we still pasteurize milk to make sure you are kept safe and healthy!
Salt
- We use non-iodized, semi-course salt to season our Bags of Cheese Curds
- Salt is a small but important ingredient in cheese! Most importantly, salt enhances the flavor found in the cheese curds.
- The addition of salt encourages the loss of moisture by drawing whey out of curd and helps develop the texture of cheese.Â
- Salt neutralizes the acidity found in cheese and acts as a natural preservative.
Microbial Rennet
- Rennet is a coagulating agent that is used in cheese-making to thicken the milk. This helps separate the curds and whey before it’s time to cut the curd.
Cheese Culture
- Cheese culture is a fermenting bacteria that is added to milk to digest the lactose sugars. This produces lactic acid and creates cheese curds!
Ways to Eat a Bag of Cheese Curds
- Eat the entire bag plain in one sitting
- Batter, deep fry, and eat with a spicy aioli
- Marinade with oils and herbs
- Stuff your favorite burger patty
- Stuff a grilled cheese
